Wat Pho Temple Reclining Buddha Part 2 Phil in Bangkok

Wat Pho Temple Reclining Buddha Part 2 Phil in Bangkok Video Clips. Duration : 3.82 Mins.

www.facebook.com Wat Pho (วัดโพธิ์), or Wat Phra Chetuphon (วัดพระเชตุพน) as it is generally known to the Thais, is mainly famous for the huge Reclining Buddha statue it houses. At 20 acres large, it is the largest Wat in Bangkok, and is technically the oldest too, as it was built around 200 years before Bangkok became Thailand's capital. However, today the Wat today bears virtually no resemblance to that originally constructed, as it was almost entirely rebuilt by Rama I when the capital was moved to Bangkok. It holds the dual honors of having both Thailand's largest reclining Buddha image and the most number of Buddha images in Thailand. The highly impressive gold plated reclining Buddha is 46 meters long and 15 meters high, and is designed to illustrate the passing of the Buddha into nirvana. The feet and the eyes are engraved with mother-of-pearl decoration, and the feet also show the 108 auspicious characteristics of the true Buddha. The large grounds of Wat Pho contain more than 1000 Buddha images in total, most from the ruins of the former capitals Ayuthaya and Sukhothai. The grounds are split in two by Chetuphon road. The northern section is generally the only one most people go to, and it includes a large bot (temple hall), enclosed by 394 bronze Buddha images. Outside the bot, there are 152 marble slabs depicting the second half of the epic Ramakian story. Also near here are four chedis, constructed to honor the first three Chakri kings (two for King Rama III ...

Top 10 Things to Do in Bangkok, Thailand

1. Cruise the Chao Praya River on a river taxi and enjoy the local scenery and culture. This is certainly a great way to see Bangkok and the river taxis cruise by the multiple terminals regularly. Be sure to be quick as the boats only stop briefly to let passengers on and off. If you're not sure you can jump aboard quickly enough, then you can always book a more sedate tour from any of the great riverside hotels, like the Shangri La, the Royal Orchid Sheraton or the Peninsula.

2. If shopping is your pleasure, then you can't go past the Weekend markets at Chatuchak/Jatujak. You'll find imitation brand name items like clothing, accessories, jewelry and more here and it's a great way to find some great Thai souvenirs as well.

Thailand Tour

3. Take a day out to visit the Grand Palace complex and immerse yourself in the former royal residence and surrounding glorious gilded buildings and temples. Inside the Wat Phra Kaew temple, you'll find the stunning Emerald Buddha. The King of Thailand still conducts many royal rituals and ceremonies here, but the royal family resides elsewhere.

4. Treat yourself to a Thai massage and you'll never regret it. Although a traditional Thai massage can be a little harsh for many people if you're not used to it, but it's definitely a great way to de-stress your body. If you're not into the less-than-gentle manipulations, then try a foot massage instead.

5. Visit the Banyan spa retreat in the centre of the city and treat yourself to a relaxing one hour facial. If you have the time, book yourself in for the day and enjoy 7 hours of relaxing pampering that will really be worth the visit.

6. Set the alarm clock and cruise down the Floating Market. It's about 80 kms outside of Bangkok, so ask at your hotel if they have a tour or bus available to get you there. Immerse yourself in this amazing cultural experience as you float through hundreds of vendors as they set up their wares for sale along the river. Local produce and plenty of great bargains can be found by weaving your way among the boats. This is where plenty of locals tend to shop too, so you know the prices are good.

7. The Bangkok night life and restaurants are just amazing. The stunning Thai cuisine is worth exploring and sampling as there's so much variety to choose from. With plenty of entertainment to suit every possible taste, style and preference, there is so much to explore and enjoy here that you'll be returning to your hotel in the early hours of the morning.

8. Stroll through the Ancient City. This is the largest outdoor museum in the world spanning a massive 280 acres and is an enormous replica of the famous buildings, monuments and temples you can find dotted throughout all of Thailand. This is an amazing day out you don't want to miss.

9. Around 30 kilometers away from Bangkok is the Crocodile Farm and the Rose Garden. If you're headed that way, try to do both at the same time. The Crocodile Farm is huge, filled with both fresh and salt-water crocodiles. They'll put on a show for you if you're not queasy about a crazy guy sticking his head in a croc's mouth, or you can visit the other exhibits, such as gibbons, lions, elephants and snakes. There's also a dinosaur museum that's a bit of fun, containing life-sized replicas of dinosaurs.

10. We've saved the best for last. You haven't visited Thailand unless you've been to see the Elephant Show. Some places put on a show where the elephants will dance for you, while others will let you take a trek through the jungles, where you're expected to 'wash' your elephant in the river after your ride. This is a definite treat not to miss.

Entry from: Bangkok, Thailand Entry Title: "Safari World" Entry: "One of the largest theme parks in Thailand is Safari World, on the northern outskirts of Bangkok. According to their brochure it is "Thailand's greatest and most popular open zoo and show park". They also claim to have "world class shows" and an "oasis for animals" which is probably going a bit too far. It is certainly a great day out for the family and that is where I took Nong Grace yesterday as her school has now broken up for the summer holidays. Safari World is split into two sections. Namely Safari Park and Marine Park. You don't actually have to visit both as there are separate tickets for each. However, a combined ticket costs 700 baht for foreign adults with another 200 baht for the boat ride which we didn't do. For an average sized family, that works out to be an expensive day out. We decided to first visit Safari Park which was probably the highlight. This is an open park area with hundreds of wild animals roaming around. If you don't have your own car like us then you can join coach tours. However, having your own transport means that you can take your time and stop anywhere to take pictures. You can also wind down your windows to get better pictures. Nong Grace loved this area. It was a great opportunity to get up ...

Entry from: Bangkok, Thailand Entry Title: "Laid-back Nan...and historic Sukhothai" Entry: "I had planned on updating this blog more frequently than this, but it just hasn't happened. I apologize. By bus from Chiang Mai, I went to Nan, in the very eastern part of Northern Thailand. My friend Nine is from that region, so I was curious what it was like. As I did a bit of research, a couple of things drew my interest further: Wat Phumin, with its wall murals, and the Nan National Museum. What I was not prepared for was how easy-going and off-the-beaten-track Nan is. Westerners are a rare sight (I think I saw five in my three days and two nights there), and I was the source of much local curiosity as I wandered through a fascinating evening market on a side street across from the hotel where I stayed. The first indication of the quiet nature of Nan was crossing streets in the morning on the way to Wat Phumin. I barely had to look both ways before stepping off the curb. Quite different from Chiang Mai. Wat Phumin didn't disappoint. The central building holds four glittering Buddha statutes as its central shrine, and walls covered with a mural depicting elements of Buddhist cosmology, scenes of everyday life and early contact with Europeans. Scenes of Europeans (French) arriving are historically significant ...

Well, actually we were in Thailand for only a week after the original plan. The original plan was for some time, but 1 week was not at the forefront of what Thailand has to offer by hand. We were almost a month in Thailand and the feeling that we have no idea. The trip began in Thailandin the South part of the country. We were arriving from Malaysia at one of the border crossings. It was a pretty interesting way to go from one country to the next. A taxi dropped us of at the Malaysian exit site. After you get your passport exit stamp you walk over a bridge into Thailand where you now fill out the appropriate papers to get into Thailand. I have never walked into a new country before!
