Local media report deputy police chief of Malaysia's northern Perak State, Zakaria Yusof, saying the driver lost control of the vehicle as it was descending from Cameron Highlands. The highlands are a popular hill resort in the northwest of Pahang State, about 124 miles from Kuala Lumpur. 37 Thai tourists were traveling on the bus, en route to Kuala Lumpur, where the tourists were scheduled to fly back to Bangkok. Zakaria says 22 of the victims died on the spot right after the accident—happening at 11 am .(0340 GMT)—while 4 others died while on their way to hospital. About 100 rescue personnel arrive at the scene, helping another 11 injured to reach a nearby hospital in Ipoh for treatment. The names of the dead have yet to be released. Local media reports a Tourism Malaysia source saying the double-decker bus belonged to San Express Holiday which is registered in Perak.
