Checkmate - Chapter XII

Martin Graham scrutinized the case history files for Albert Morton, forwarded by the Federal Corrections Department. Finding no evidence that would allow a Judge to sign an order detaining him in the country. The file also provided the trial details of Morton's conviction; still, giving him no leads as to why Kayn was displaying such irrational behavior on this man.

He sent Kayn another confirmation that there were no circumstances that would allow his office to apply for a restraining order. His desktop curser was flashing with a high priority communication from NATO going to all Federal Security Agencies reporting that Chanarong Montri and Kim Chan So were believed to be in Naples, Italy. It further reported that security informants confirmed that AOC agents were enroute to Naples.

Thailand Tour

As Martin scanned the communication logs and it became obvious, over and above the security agents already in Naples for the Economic Conference, there was about to be an aerial tsunami of international enormity descending onto the tarmac at the Aeroporto di Napoli. He picked up his travelling bag and left for the departure gate at the International Airport, enroute to Naples.

Travelling 37,000 feet over the north Atlantic ocean Albert was busy reviewing the Italian chronicles as Robert rested in the adjacent seat. He had spoken with Harry earlier in the day and learnt about the confrontation that had taken place with Kayn; he had not yet relayed this information to Robert.
Alyssa would be so full of pride knowing the genuine man Robert was developing into.

Albert closed his diary after documenting and planning his tours of southern Italy on this trip; perhaps in his exuberance he had indeed overextended his destinations. He slipped it into his attaché and removed a small bundle of letters that he kept close to him; letters from past colleagues at the University, all encouraging his return to the classroom; letters from Gordon at Fraser Lake, as always supporting him in his new ventures and old letters from Alyssa, received while at Fraser Lake. He read line by line and finally, comforted by kind thoughts and words, sleep came to him.

He woke feeling the heat of the sun streaming through the windows of the cabin. David had risen earlier and was working from the turn down table at his chair.

"Good Morning David, did you sleep well?"

"Had a good sleep Albert. We are about an hour from landing so I asked the stewards to serve you breakfast as soon as you woke.

"Will Harry be meeting us at the airport?"

"Yes, I had a message from him this morning."

David turned on the in-cabin closed circuit TV to see if they could see any news, when a message from the Captain interrupted the program -

"We have just received notice that the Naples Airport has been closed due to security breaches; we have been redirected to Bari airport, which is on the east coast of Italy along the Mediterranean Sea."

David immediately sent a message to Harry confirming the change of plans.

The Captain returned and announced that the flight should be landing in Bari in approximately 90 minutes.

David followed up with Harry, who had returned his message and confirmed that he would take the plane to Bari to meet their flight. He could not confirm his departure time because of the delays being encountered on the tarmac at Naples, but would advise within the next hour.

Chanarong had been waiting for Harry on the plane and had receive the same message from Veronica, that their flight originating from Bangkok had indeed been turned away from landing in Naples and was enroute to Bari.

Looking over at the main terminal multiple emergency service vehicles, as well as international flights were stacked along the runway with passengers mingling on the tarmac.

"We have received clearance for take off at 11:50 pm as well as our return. "

"I'll let David know, are you calling Veronica?"

"Yes they should have landed by now."

"Harry, tell David to look for Veronica at the terminal. Best they stay together."

Harry spoke with David and Albert and explained what he knew about the closure, which was very little.

Harry contacted Rosa at IMEC and questioned if the conference was carrying on. She confirmed that it had not been convened on Friday due to security alerts. She further advised that it appeared to be a security breach relating to foreign agents entering Naples. A news release was received on Thursday by federal security agents that someone with diplomatic connections from China, wanted for questioning, had been seen travelling about in Naples.

Harry did not feel comfortable listening to this information and interrupted Rosa making an inept excuse as to why he must take is leave and left his phone number for her to call when she had more information as to when the conference would reconvene.

Their plane departed at 11:50 pm enroute to Bari with a return flight plan to land at Terminal 2.

"Harry I don't believe that Naples is the best place for Kim right now. Would you be terribly upset if I made arrangements for Kim and Shai to go directly to Capri from Bari. There is a helicopter service that can take them directly to Capri. Veronica confirmed they are travelling under passports issued in Thailand under Shai's family name."

"I believe Chanarong, under these circumstances, you have no alternative."

Walking the tarmac at Naples airport, together with multiples of security agents was Kayn, looking for his needle in this unfamiliar haystack.

Albert, Robert, Veronica, Kim and Shai were all waiting together outside the terminal when Harry and Chanarong landed.

Chanarong talked with Kim and Shai explaining the security risk returning to Naples and that he had made arrangements for them to travel immediately from Bari to Capri.

Kim confirmed with Chanarong that Shai had rented a villa in the remote Conca Bay. He tried to humor Chanarong by adding that to get to the house, which was located on the side of the Mountain, you had to climb over 200 steps. Running those steps each day would once again get him back into shape after the soft sands of Kalim Beach.

"Kim have you spoken with your father?"

"Yes, last week, before they were moved. I don't know where they are right now."

"For yours and their safety, that is good."

Kim and Shai bid farewell to all and waited in the van for Chanarong who would be taking them to the hanger, for their flight to Capri.

The traffic at the Bari terminal was inundated receiving International flights, including the carrier transporting Martin Graham. Martin contacted Kayn when he received confirmation that his flight was redirected to Bari from Naples. Kayn seemed almost inflexible in his explanation to Martin as to why the Naples airport was under lock-down. From what Martin was able to grasp, in combination to Kayn's perhaps misleading innuendoes on various sightings of Kim Chan So in and around Naples, was the actual arrivals of AOC agents trying to clear customs without appropriate papers.

After clearing customs Martin made arrangements to lease a vehicle to take him back to Naples. He walked out of the terminal stopping at the curb looking upwards to locate the parking garage, taking no notice of the van double parked to his right. In the back seat were Kim and Shai who certainly recognized Martin Graham and moved back into their seat so that their faces remained in the shadows.

As though on call Chanarong and Veronica came out from the departure terminal and walked towards Martin.

"Mr. Graham, so good to see you. Are you here for the economic conference?"

"Mr. Montri, Miss Bartola nice to see you again. Yes I am returning to the conference; and you Mr. Montri?"

"As a matter of fact Mr. Graham, with San Carlo housing the conference, Veronica is scheduled to perform at the Augusteo theatre this coming week; and I am here both for personal and business matters, which I expect will involve some time at the conference. It was good to speak with you again Mr. Graham, but you will have to excuse us, we are anxious to make our way to Naples."

"I would be happy give you both a lift, I have just made arrangements for a vehicle."

"How kind of you, but we have a ride waiting for us."

"Very well, I am sure we will see you throughout the week."

"Good Evening Mr. Graham."

Martin turned and walked towards the parking garage in pursuit of his vehicle.

Chanarong and Veronica walked away from the van and waiting at the main doors, appearing to be waiting for their ride.

Harry who had been watching from inside the terminal was not sure as to who the man was that had spoken with Chanarong and Veronica, but from Veronica's discrete jesters he knew they had not met an old friend. He walked out and moved directly to the van, not acknowledging Chanarong or Veronica. Once in the driver's seat he turned on the ignition, put it in drive and moved into the lane towards the exit with Kim and Shai staying in the shadows of the back seat.

Watching from the shadows of the garage was Martin Graham keeping his focus on Chanarong and Veronica, not recognizing the 3rd tip of the triangle now driving away.

Harry drove the van to the adjacent hanger where the helicopter pilot was waiting. Kim and Harry moved their luggage into the cargo hold, exchanged good-byes.

Looking under the visor Harry found the registration for the van confirming it was registered to the Bari Airport. Seeing no risk returning to the main terminal to pick up Chanarong and Veronica, Harry moved towards the terminal.

He drove along the arrivals road until he saw Chanarong; Veronica was no long with him. He slowed down and got Chanarong's attention, who moved towards the van.

"I don't think it wise to get into the van right now Harry; we have not seen Mr. Martin leave the garage and I am sure we will be followed. Veronica has gone inside to stay with Albert and Harry. I spoke with the doorkeeper and he has arranged for a private car to pick us up on the departure level. You can leave the van in the loading zone straight ahead and go in those doors. Tell the others of the arrangements and I will be there in a few minutes."

Harry moved ahead to the loading zone.

Martin Graham appeared.

"Mr. Montri, may I be of help."

"Not at all Mr. Graham, we are waiting for our luggage to arrive and are dealing with the lost and found right now. I just now sent our van away, not wanting to detain the airport services."

"Of course, I understand that problem."

"I thought you would have been long gone by now."

"Just organizing the paperwork in the vehicle, would not look right for a man in my position to be travelling without the proper paper work."

"Well good luck to you Mr. Graham, I must go in and see if they have located our luggage."

As Chanarong passed through the doors Martin Graham's reflection stood stationary in the frame. Chanarong passed through the lost and found holding area, showing great interest to the array of misplaced luggage. He had a brief conversation with the claims clerk, asking how his family was and asked if it was possible that he may look through the luggage that remained in the back room.

Once in the secured area Chanarong saw the connecting door to the Gates adjoining the hangers and extended his quickest appreciation to the clerk and exited.

"Cambodia" Chattynatty's photos around Angkor Wat, Cambodia Video Clips. Duration : 0.87 Mins.

A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Angkor Wat, Cambodia by TravelPod blogger Chattynatty titled "Cambodia". TravelPod is a company of TripAdvisor™. Chattynatty's travel blog entry: "I don't know where to begin....I have never seen poverty like I did on my trip into Cambodia. I chartered a mini bus from Trat to the Northern border and crossed into Poipet. It took us 9 hours to get to the border and then we got our visas and crossed into Cambodia and loaded onto a bus, a rickety old bus! I can't even express to you the state of the road. It was worse than any of dad's logging roads after a rainy season. A pot hole is more like a pond. I think I was airborne out of my seat more than I was sitting in it. Our group of bus travelers managed to have fun though, we laughed had some beers and then the Swedes brought out the Vodka! The dust from the road found its way through all the cracks in the bus and we choked on a light haze. I was tired but got a second wind once we left the border on route to Angkor Wat. People live in shacks along the dusty road and I mean shacks, I have built tree forts better! Every once in a while there would be a murky body of water that I can't even justify calling a pond. It looked more like a mud puddle with green stuff growing on it and there would be families bathing in it. At times I could see families gathering in a circle, cross legged in the dirt to eat their supper. Several small children and animals walked along side of the ...

Elephant riding Chiang Mai Thailand

Elephant riding Chiang Mai Thailand Tube. Duration : 8.87 Mins.

We rode a 15 year old elephant (just an adolescent) at the Maetamann Elephant Camp in Chiang Mai followed by the rafting down the Ping River. The old city of Chiang Mai with its fascinating indigenous cultural identity such as diverse dialects, cuisine, architecture, traditional values, festivals, handicrafts and classical dances is a prime location in its own right. In addition, the presence of hill tribes and their wealth of unique cultures enhance Chiang Mai's distinctive diversity. Chiang Mai literally means new city and has retained the name despite having celebrated its 700th anniversary in 1996. King Meng Rai founded the city as the capital of the Lanna (A Million Rice Fields) Kingdom on Thursday, 12th April 1296 during the same period of time as the establishment of the Sukhothai Kingdom. King Meng Rai the Great conferred with his friends, King Ramkhamhaeng of Sukhothai and King Ngam Muang of Phayao before choosing the site where the capital of the Lanna Kingdom was to be founded. From then, Chiang Mai not only became the capital and cultural core of the Lanna Kingdom, it was also the centre of Buddhism in northern Thailand. King Meng Rai himself was very religious and founded many of the city's temples, which are still important today. At the height of its power, the Lanna Kingdom extended its territory far into Burma and Laos, and southwards to Kamphaeng Phet a province above Sukhothai. The Burmese conquered the Lanna Kingdom in 1556 ending the dynasty founded ...

Top 10 Things to Do in Bangkok, Thailand

1. Cruise the Chao Praya River on a river taxi and enjoy the local scenery and culture. This is certainly a great way to see Bangkok and the river taxis cruise by the multiple terminals regularly. Be sure to be quick as the boats only stop briefly to let passengers on and off. If you're not sure you can jump aboard quickly enough, then you can always book a more sedate tour from any of the great riverside hotels, like the Shangri La, the Royal Orchid Sheraton or the Peninsula.

2. If shopping is your pleasure, then you can't go past the Weekend markets at Chatuchak/Jatujak. You'll find imitation brand name items like clothing, accessories, jewelry and more here and it's a great way to find some great Thai souvenirs as well.

Thailand Tour

3. Take a day out to visit the Grand Palace complex and immerse yourself in the former royal residence and surrounding glorious gilded buildings and temples. Inside the Wat Phra Kaew temple, you'll find the stunning Emerald Buddha. The King of Thailand still conducts many royal rituals and ceremonies here, but the royal family resides elsewhere.

4. Treat yourself to a Thai massage and you'll never regret it. Although a traditional Thai massage can be a little harsh for many people if you're not used to it, but it's definitely a great way to de-stress your body. If you're not into the less-than-gentle manipulations, then try a foot massage instead.

5. Visit the Banyan spa retreat in the centre of the city and treat yourself to a relaxing one hour facial. If you have the time, book yourself in for the day and enjoy 7 hours of relaxing pampering that will really be worth the visit.

6. Set the alarm clock and cruise down the Floating Market. It's about 80 kms outside of Bangkok, so ask at your hotel if they have a tour or bus available to get you there. Immerse yourself in this amazing cultural experience as you float through hundreds of vendors as they set up their wares for sale along the river. Local produce and plenty of great bargains can be found by weaving your way among the boats. This is where plenty of locals tend to shop too, so you know the prices are good.

7. The Bangkok night life and restaurants are just amazing. The stunning Thai cuisine is worth exploring and sampling as there's so much variety to choose from. With plenty of entertainment to suit every possible taste, style and preference, there is so much to explore and enjoy here that you'll be returning to your hotel in the early hours of the morning.

8. Stroll through the Ancient City. This is the largest outdoor museum in the world spanning a massive 280 acres and is an enormous replica of the famous buildings, monuments and temples you can find dotted throughout all of Thailand. This is an amazing day out you don't want to miss.

9. Around 30 kilometers away from Bangkok is the Crocodile Farm and the Rose Garden. If you're headed that way, try to do both at the same time. The Crocodile Farm is huge, filled with both fresh and salt-water crocodiles. They'll put on a show for you if you're not queasy about a crazy guy sticking his head in a croc's mouth, or you can visit the other exhibits, such as gibbons, lions, elephants and snakes. There's also a dinosaur museum that's a bit of fun, containing life-sized replicas of dinosaurs.

10. We've saved the best for last. You haven't visited Thailand unless you've been to see the Elephant Show. Some places put on a show where the elephants will dance for you, while others will let you take a trek through the jungles, where you're expected to 'wash' your elephant in the river after your ride. This is a definite treat not to miss.

Haiti - Culture And Sports

CULTURE

Like Katherine Dunham, Lillian Hellman, W.B. Seabrook, Erik Leonard Ekman, Alejo Carpentier, Selden Rodman, Noel Coward and Angeline Jolie, many people say that Haiti is the most beautiful country in the Caribbean. Known as the "Magic Land", Haiti is famous for its culture. Certainly, Haiti its culture, its superstitions and its music. The superstitions or voodoo plays a profound role in the lives of many Haitians. The voodoo was introduced into Haiti in the late 16th Century. Haiti is also famous for its painting, and finally for its ruins...for example the Sans Souci Palace, the most famous ruins in the Caribbean. Exactly, this enigmatic palace is considered a Cultural Heritage for Humanity by UNESCO. Originally constructed by black slaves, now Sans Souci is one of Haiti's main tourist attractions.

Thailand Tour

Since the late 1940s, Haitian painting, best known as "naïve art" or "intuitive art", is famous all around the World. The most important figure was Hector Hyppolite. His work made its biggest splash in the United States in the 20th Century. Other artists known internationally include Rigaud Benoit, Castera Bazile, Joseph Jean-Giles and Jean-Baptista Bottlex.Haiti is famous for its traditional sculpture. The best Haitian sculptor is Albert Mangoes.

FAMOUS HAITIAN

Nelust Wyclef Jean (singer/Haitian-American): Original member of 1990s hip hop group The Fugees. Wyclef Jean is probably the most popular Haitian singer of all time. Jean was born in Croix des Bouquets (Haiti) on October 17, 1972. When he was just ten years old, he moved to the United States. Under leadership of Wyclef Jean and Lauryn Hill, The Fugees had several hits in the 1990s, including The Score (The Score album sold 6 million copies). Since 1997, Wyclef Jean, as soloist, became well-known on the international music scene. Like songwriter and producer, Jean collaborated with superstars as Santana, Withney Houston, Mick Jagger,Bono,Tevin Cambpell, Bounty Killer, Eric Benet, Sarah Connor, Claudette Ortiz, Tarkan, Michael Jackson, Youssou N´Dor, Shakira, Olga Tañon, Carlos Ponce and Julio Voltio. During the last seven years, he has sold more than 10 millions albums worldwide. In 2002, his single Masquerade was a great success.

Since then, Wyclef Jean is a man that always works with love for Haiti, one of the World's poorest countries. Recently, he makes perhaps his best work: "Yele Haiti", a foundation which works for the human development in the Island. Like Miriam Makeba in South Africa or Bianca Jagger in Nicaragua, Jean loves his roots. In an interview for Magazine, Wyclef Jean discussed about Haitian roots: "I am 100% Haitian. I am proud to be Haitian. I still have my Haitian passport. I represent Haiti in everything that I do. Every head in the industry knows that I am Haitian...they know what I'm about. I was Haitian forst. Haitian till die!", said Jean.

SPECIAL AWARDS

Gerthie David "The Black Goddess"

In 1975, many Haitian people were shocked to open their newspapers and see photographs of Gerthie David Miss Haiti in El Salvador. On the night of July 19th 1975, in San Salvador, Gerthie David, Miss Haiti, was the second black woman to first runner-up in the history of Miss Universe Pageant. After winning the Miss Haiti title, Gerthie went to San Salvador, the capital city of El Salvador, to enter the Miss Universe Contest. The competence was exhausting, very hard, for example Miss Bolivia, Jackeline Gammarra, great favorite, was eliminated. This day, Miss Haiti looks like a black goddess. Her exotic beauty and charming personality are amazing! Like in Brazil or Italy, the football is the most popular sport in Haiti. Certainly, the national pastime is the football. A different of the Dominican Republic or Puerto Rico, the Haitian people don't like the baseball. In the 20th Century, football became the most popular sport in the Island, thanks to such heroes as Sylvio Cator, Joseph Gaetjens and Emmanuel Sanon. In 1974 Haiti qualified for the World Cup in Germany.

Emmanuel Sanon was one of the Haiti's most popular players and played at the 1974 World Cup. Sanon made a great contribution to Haitian football because he played in more World Cup qualifiers any other Haitian. He is still very popular with local fans. He made FIFA World Cup History: When scored United States opening goal in the 1950 World Cup against England. Joseph came to the United States in the 1940s to play in the American Soccer League. His beautiful play in the Brookhattan Club made in a national star. In 1953, he played for Haiti for the first time.

It's practically impossible to talk about Haitian athletes without mentioning Sylvio Cator. He is a legend in this sport. Cator won the silver medal in the long jump at 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. Cator returned home to a hero's welcome. From 1928 to 1930, he was record man in the long jump. Cator was a marvelous jumper and footballer. He also played an important role in popularizing football in the Island (it was the captain of Haitian National Team).

Since then, he is an example for young people in Haiti. He died in November 1938, but today the people of Haiti still think of him with respect. Many years after Cator's death, the National Stadium in Por-au-Prince was renamed in his honor. Six Good Reasons to Take a Family Vacation

When I was young, family vacations with my parents consisted of driving for a week from place to place in a hot stifling car. My parents had the knack of picking the hottest week of the summer to do so. In spite of that, we still had fun, managed to find interesting sites to explore and those are the memories that I still have.

I discovered the joy of travel to far reaching destinations on my own by the time I turned 18. Jumping on a plane and heading off to Brazil, Europe or cruising the Caribbean, has turned into a life long passion my whole family now enjoys with me.

Thailand Tour

Family vacations have evolved over the years. There have never been more choices, more variety and more options available for family vacations as there is today. Especially since 9/11, the focus on family and community and played a strong role in our society. The travel industry has noticed and has geared up for families. From all-inclusive vacation packages and cruises, which are equipped with kids clubs and special activities; to resorts that supply a nanny for your stay, it's never been a better time for families to travel.

Still not sure? Here are just a few of the benefits of taking a family vacation:

1. The family that plays together, stays together.....

It is a time to get away from it all. Away from work, the phone calls, the kid's activities, the daily to do list. This is a great opportunity to spend time as a family and get to know each other. Go for a hike, build a sandcastle, explore a museum. There is more time to talk and spend time together without the daily distractions.

2. Teach your children well....

Travel is an excellent learning tool for kids. They can have the opportunity to learn about things first hand they may have learned in school, read about or saw on TV. Any destination can offer this learning experience whether it is a few hours drive away from you home or in Europe. Family vacations will teach children about different cultures, food, history, geography, climate, environment and so much more. The best part is that it's way more fun for them then learning it through homework!

3. New experiences they will never forget.....

Family vacations provide a whole new venue for experiences that your kids never would have had otherwise. We took a family cruise last winter, and it was my 9-year-old son's first cruise. We told him all about the ship and showed him pictures but I don't think he could quite grasp what it was really going to be like. We landed in Fort Lauderdale and as we were driving to the port, we could see our ship in the distance. He was excited but still very nonchalant. Once we got to the port and pulled up alongside the ship, he looked up and up and up at the enormous ship, his mouth dropped open and he gasped in amazement. That reaction was worth the price of the whole trip and is something I know our family will always remember.

4. Life is an adventure, especially on vacation....

Even if you are not particularly brave there are still many ways to experience the adventures that lie in every corner of our planet. It may be as simple as going to the zoo at your destination and seeing the animals that are local to that habitat or taking a jungle tour though the Amazon. There is so much to see and do, pick the adventures that appeal to your family and do them together.

5. You kids won't be kids forever....

Doesn't seem like yesterday that the teenager that just borrowed your car, was in diapers and day-care? Most parents agree that time seems to fly by quickly and those babies are grown before you know it. There will come a time that your children will have lives of their own and sad as it may seem, spending time with Mom and Dad will not be anywhere near the top of their list. Take the time for a family vacation while they still want your company.

6. Time to kick back and relax......

Now this part is important. One of the main reasons to take a vacation is to get some rest and recharge. It is important for everyone so don't over do it. Try and schedule an active day followed by a more relaxing day. It's hard to do in some destinations where there is so much to see and do like Disney World, but trust me. The kids will be less tired and cranky and it will give you a reason to come back to the destination again!

I know this all sounds so good, it makes you want to book that trip you've been putting off doesn't it? Well, I will add in a dose of reality here and include a few negatives. There are some natural stresses to travelling. Planes get delayed, kids get cranky, families can have too much of a good thing and get on each other's nerves. The list can go on, but don't let that discourage you, the advantages are too numerous to ignore.

So whether you choose to pack the kids in the car or fly to more exotic destinations, the benefits are the same. As far as memories go, we tend to remember the good things; the time spent together as a family, the new things that were discovered, the new friends we made, the places we saw. This is what your children will remember and, the fact that you were there with them to enjoy it.

Hillforest Mansion - Aurora Indiana

Sitting on 10 acres of land high on a hill overlooking the Ohio River, Hillforest Mansion strikes an impressive scene. Just as impressive is it's colorful past. Listed on The National Register of Historic Places, in 1992 it was bestowed the honor of being designated a National Historic Landmark thus placing it on the same level of prominence as Thomas Jefferson's Monticello.

Designed in 1853 by Isaiah Rogers, an architect known as the "father of the modern hotel", it was designed for Thomas Gaff and his family who occupied it from 1855 until 1891.

Shipping and riverboats were significant elements of the Gaff business enterprises and are reflected in the architecture of the home.

Although based on the Italian Renaissance architectural style, the two-story home's design reflected Gaff's involvement in the shipping industry with its full-width front porch being reminiscent of a steamboat's deck. Among it's many features include Ventian Glass Windows, elaborate plaster mouldings, a museum room, and an underground wine cellar.

The suspended staircase was patterned after those at the ends of the Grand Salon on the more elaborate riverboats of the time.Reportedly, the Gaff children once rode a pony up these stairs and out the rear door.

Thomas Gaff was born in Scotland in July of 1808. After coming to the United States, he learned paper making and the distillery business. Along with his brother James they became involved in many other businesses, including a jewelry store, A Nevada silver mine, farming, turnpike and canal construction, machine works, and a mill in Columbus Indiana which produced the world's first ready made cereal.

Needing to transport their brewery and distillery products, they also owned a fleet of steamboats. During the Civil War they supplied the Union Army the steamboats, whence one of them the Forest Queen became the headquarters for Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman and successfully rammed the Vicksburg blockade.

In their spare time, the brothers were involved in many civic affairs, helped organize the local school system , established the First National Bank of Aurora and served on the city council.

Today Hillforest is a non-profit museum and is open to the public.

Petchaburi Tours - A Handy Guide for Tourists in Thailand

Because of its exotic culture and wonderful sceneries, Thailand has become a magnet destination for tourists who are after a unique and one-of-a-kind holiday. You can choose to have a relaxing getaway in the beaches of Phuket, or immerse in the city life of Bangkok. But if you think you've seen it all, then wait until you get to Petchaburi. This place offers a new and refreshing view of Thailand which you will truly enjoy. And to make the most of it, you should definitely sign up for Petchaburi tours.

For those who don't know, Petchaburi is located just around 150 kilometers south of Bangkok and is considered a central region area. It is also known as the City of the Three Palaces since it used to be a royal fort town. Here, tourists can visit beautiful structures such as the Phrarajnivesmarugadayawan, Phraramrajanivet, and Phranakhonkhiri. After seeing all that, there are more temples, caves, and beaches in the area to explore.

Thailand Tour

Because historical sightseeing packages are pretty popular in Petchaburi, a lot of culture and history buffs go there. So if you're one of them, this is perfect for you. The great thing about these tours is they usually have land transfer arrangements. You can be picked up from your hotel at Cha-Am or Hua Hin and be brought to Petchaburi in a private air-conditioned vehicle.

One of the places you should visit in Petchaburi is the temple of Wat Maha Dhat. Located near a river, it is said to house some of Buddha's relics. It is believed that this temple is dated as far back as the 12th century and contains paintings that illustrate Buddha's life. In fact, kudos to the Buddhist monks for being able to maintain an important piece of history.

Why don't you also swing by Khao Wang or Palace Hill, the famed summer getaway of King Rama IV? To get there, you have to travel by cable car. On the way, you can see buildings that combine Chinese and Western architectural styles. You can also get a good glimpse of the whole city.

Tours are often not complete without stopping by at the Khao Luang Cave. Here, the main interest is a huge statue of Buddha, towering about 80 feet from the ground and housed in a cavern of limestone. Many of the images, numbering to almost 170, was built by King Mongkut who often used the caves and temples for meditation and studying.

Among the many packages offered by Petchaburi tours is also a food tour of the city's everyday market. You will get to see Thailand's authentic food ingredients, sample sumptuous dishes, and also exotic fruits which you can bring along while wandering the streets of this town.

More than this, there is also a tour for bird lovers since Thailand is a haven for exotic species. It's a great thrill to discover Thailand's exotic birds like the Common Pintail Snipe, Greater Painted Snipe, Red Necked Stint and many more. Usually, they can be seen in their saltwater homes or even along the shores of the Petchaburi area. Thinking about going to amazing Thailand? Make sure to catch one of the Petchaburi tours to complete your trip.
